Free Loaner Equipment Program (Thermal Cycler)
Contact us directly to coordinate.

High schools conducting Lab 3: Polymerase Chain Reaction can borrow a BioRad MyCycler (Thermal Cycler) from the Bordenstein Lab for the week that they will be running the labs. Please plan in advance to coordinate scheduling and shipping. There are no costs associated with this program. Our objective is to integrate this cutting edge technology to your classroom. We imagine that students versed in PCR will appreciate high standards and be well-ahead of the curve when looking for volunteer research opportunities in college or summer lab experiences. Hopefully these opportunities will have the effect of influencing some into a major or career in the life sciences.

DNA Sequencing Collaboration with the Marine Biological Laboratory
Contact us directly to coordinate.

You can coordinate a free sequencing collaboration with the Bordenstein Lab. In this effort, you will mail aliquots of either Wolbachia PCR products or Qiagen DNA templates (only those species that were positive for Wolbachia and when the controls worked perfectly) to the lab. Please coordinate with us in advance of shipping the templates to the MBL. Within a couple of weeks, we will send you sequences back or upload them on a website for retrieval so that you and your students can use these sequences in the Lab 5 DNA Sequence Analysis (Bioinformatics), in place of the already provided sequence in that lab.

Travel Assistance to State and National Meetings
Contact us directly to coordinate.

Are you headed to a NSTA, NABT, or other meetings? Would you like to spread the word about your progress and passion for the Wolbachia Project? If so, the current program has discretionary funding to support your travel. Please contact the program coordinator, Michele Bahr, with a brief inquiry about your meeting, what you will present, and an estimate of travel suppport.
